I'm thinking of selling some domains I've bought to make a few sites but never got the time to finish them. The problem is that I don't know how to sell them. If someone buys it from me, how do I transfer the domain for that person, if I have that domain paid for 2 years, or lifetime in some cases? I know this sounds pretty basic, but I would really love to sell them in forums or other places and I don't know how can this be processed. If someone could help me it would be great.
You could list your domain names with a broker like fandie.com or sedo.com etc, or list the domains for sale on this forum for instance, The transfer of the domain name is fairly striaght forward although some registrars are easyier than others but either way it should be straight forward, If the domain name is not a .com sometimes the transfer period can take longer, like .co.uk for example the buyer has to fill out paperwork before coming the legal owner etc What domain names are you selling?
After you sell a domain, just push the domain to the new owner. For example, if you register your domain at mydomain.com, just ask new owner to register an account with them and get the username and push to the account.
Yes as said before, the ease of the transfer lies within the host. Some make it more difficult than others just so you are discouraged from changing.
I'm only thinking in selling two domains (or websites) at this stage, it's http://www.entrepreneuradvice.org, and http://www.tipsandjobs.com. At a later stage (a few years), I'd probably sell http://www.guitarfreetabs.com or one of friend's website, http://www.guitartabcollege.com. Thanks for everyone's help.
You can list it here in the buy and sell area. As far as how to transfer it, it depends on who you have the domain registered with. The popular ones offer a free push to the new owner. These include GoDaddy and Namecheap; I am sure there are others. Some make you fill out a ton of paperwork to transfer to a new owner. Be sure to read the terms of service for the domain register you are with to see what their policy is.
