I like to use google suggest Make a list of possible search phrases and run them through google suggest and then check Google,Yahoo, & MSN and see what your competition is using as keywords, then pick the highest searched terms on google suggest that you feel you sites can attain vs the competition. You can also focus on the search terms that your competition is not using if you want to try an easier but smaler niche. Their are many other ways but this is a good starting point inmo. Hope this helps!
As you should. With Google that is a huge factor in their algorithm. To find out what keywords are worth targeting use the Overture Keyword Tool and Google Trends.
Yes keywords are the most important, I think he was asking more on how to word it, thats why I like google suggest because you can take your keywords and learn how people are using them to search.
well, i see it as being quite simple. If your site is about hockey, and you have a page next week about how the Oilers won game six, you would probvablyt have keyphrases: "Oilers win game 6" (meaning that you probably have this in an <h1>, and perhaps <h2> tags, in your description, keywords, and abstract meta tags, ans also in your title. So - name your image: "oilers-win-game-6.gif" and make that your exact alt tag too. if you need more help, you gonna have to pony up all the details about the page you trying to optimize
Keywords you want to show up for. You also need to rotate your anchor text among different terms so it looks as natural as possible.
you should make the anchor text look natural. A good idea is to see backlinks for a well established competitor and see hoe people are linking to sites similar to yours. Then you can modify the link texts to add a few important keywords..
Anchor text should be the main key text of your site. So there is need of lot of care while choosing it.
I settle on a one/two word phrase and then look for three/four word variations of this in order to make it look natural. Evidence I've seen in the past makes me certain that vast numbers of incoming links all with the same anchor text leads to a penalty.
I know Googe bowling is possible, but haven't seen any evidence that this can be done via the same anchor text only... I mean that these links must be placed on *bad* pages also IMO
Matt, I'd be happy to trust you, but I can trust my own eyes - sorry Care to post a URL of such a banned/punished/penalized/devalued website? I'll do the rest of reasearh myself, so please don't bother to post any additional explanations. Or please PM me if you don't wanna post it here. Thank you in advance
The site I had in mind has been taken down by it's owners about a year ago, I don't think the dmain is still active. I think Nintendo has a site that he accidently bowled recently. You can check with him if it's still live?
