To check in google do link:yourdomain.com but the best way to check for back links is to use google webmaster because the google search doesn't show all the back links, you can also try yahoo site explorer.

As everyone said, you can use link: operator which works with domain name and tells the number of backlinks, but Google link: operator is not good, it shows very few links. Check your backlinks from Google webmaster or from Yahoo!.

I usually use this command on yahoo: linkdomain:www. yourdomain .com -site:www. yourdomain .com

This will only show you external links to your site. and yahoo usually shows most of the links pointing to your domain.
