How to score high rank on the major search engines?

Do Analysis your competitors website, Which activities they are doing.
Do Analysis about your competitors Back links.
Do some Change in your meta tags, Make new meta tag with priority keywords.

 

You can increased back link by Directory Submission, Article Submission, Social Bookmarking, Blog comment, Forum posting, Press relise submission

 

If your are ranking in third page currently then just have a patience and believe only on quality seo work, it will take some time but surely you will get you desired ranking...do not try to do more because may it go wrong for you..

 

Getting high ranking depends on certain factors such as
1. competition for the keyword in search engines for which u are targeting your site
2. amount of work done by your competitors
3. Your website should have good quality content
4. links from do follow bookmarking site, or similar theme blogs or sites.
5. last but not least if your site is new it will take time to get higher ranks in SERP's
