Iran is notorious for leaching bandwidth from proxy sites... This copy and paste the code below into your .HTACCESS file in order to block Iranian IPs from using your proxy servers...

No problem. I created it so others wouldnt have to spend the time searching for IP ranges and creating the file. Plus, I must admit.. I feel slightly vindicated by blocking these IPs. I gave the ranges a chance and it lead to 0 conversions and a huge bandwidth issue. Based on site analysis, I guess they'll have to use another proxy for camel pr0n =) *sarcasm*

I sincerely hope no Iranian DP users find this offensive. Its not personal, its just me dealing with proxy abusers.

I actualy find Russia to be more of a threat to my proxys. :0) There is a Marketing firm there that does the Europe Soccer and they cause more problems from what I find. I lost a server due to that group.

Well you could think of it in a different way, Adsense wants visitors that convert and obviously Iranian, Chinese and Russian visitors wont. Most traffic from these locations arent interested in the ads, leading to smart-pricing and decreased profit. I have hotlinking protection and dont block these areas on my proxies but it is really worthless traffic.

They probably don't want to be executed for visiting secular web sites.

    Makes sense, doesn't it?

For me, Iran uses much lesser bandwidth than what China and USA do. And I don't see why you should block the people of a country for using up your bandwidth? After all, they click your ads, they bring in a major part of the traffic to your proxy.

Blocking IP's from a proxy is a pretty short-sighted thing to do.

Would it not be much smarter to ensure that nobody can hotlink, and when they try, you re-direct them back to your proxy home page?

I have written a custom script to do exactly this, and I have deployed it onto only 1 proxy at the moment. I just need a few days to see how effective it is.

Would you mind sharing the script you use to redirect them back to your site? Im getting beat up by people mirroring or copying my site. Adsense went from $50 a month and growing to hardly nothing. Any help is appreaciated.
