How to rip DVD for playback on the web?

I have a product I sell on the web. This product comes with an instructional DVD. I have permission to put snippets on my website of the DVD. Obviously not the whole DVD because it's 30min long.

How do I rip the snippets from the DVD and encode it for playback on my website?

What do I need for software? Both free and commerical information would be great.

    Thanks for any advice.

You could rip the DVD into .avi format using DrDivx and then cut out parts you need using software such as Premiere (by Adobe) or other like video editing software. That's the easiest way I know of

Any tips on getting the AVI compressed so the files are not huge?
