How to restore data from a damaged HDD?

The cylinder headers or sectors of the HDD are toast; SATA drive

Upon connection of the HDD to my tower, the drive starts, goes in a on/off sequence of 3 cycles and dies. HDD is not recognized anywhere in bios let alone XP/linux.

I need to access and move that data on the drive as it is highly sensitive, how do I get around to doing that? Anybody here done something close to similar?

To me it sounds as if this is a problem with the drive's logic board as it is not detected by BIOS. It is possible to replace the logic boards on most hard drives provided you can get one that is EXACTLY identical to the one on your current drive. I myself have never done this before but at first glance it appears to be ridiculously easy to do on a number of drives, requiring little more than steady hands, and a set of both jewelers and torx screwdrivers. Some other possibilities include: sata cable going bad, sata port going bad. If you have no luck with these routes and something is damaged internally ... It must be disassembled in a clean room and the platter placed on a working drive or reader.. Which is a significantly more difficult task and one best left to the professionals if the data is irreplaceable. If this is not the case, it might be fun to try to fix it on your own, but bear in mind this will be a time consuming project with a high chance of failure as damaging the platter is incredibly easy.

if the drive isn't detected by the bios then you will be unable to read anything from the platter.

    Hi There

Are you certain it is the drive and not the mobo connectors?

One way to test is to put the drive in an external caddy and see if it works.

Or manually enter the drive info into the BIOS.

    Might be worth a look.

If hard drive has physical damage, then you need to give for data recovery company who can analyse and also can gauratee how much percentage of data they can recover.

Othercase like if you are Operating system crashed, connect the drive secondary and can recover from data recorery softwares,

He clearly states the drive is not detected by BIOS this means it is a problem with hardware or firmware. If all the plug wiggling in the world isn't working, trying another motherboard or updating the mobo bios, replacing the onboard IC on the hd might yield results but i severely doubt you are not just wasting your time. The drive is toast, time would be better spent recreating what you have lost if you are not willing to front the cost of repair.

Alright, nobody should reply after this post, and if you do, YOU REALLY HAVE A MESSED UP READING/COMPREHENSION.

I post #9, I have said that the drive is no longer workable due to extensive anger/frustration releasing methods. The Harddrive has been smashed with numerous golf clubs and baseball bats.

And now, if you read further up, the harddrive was not recognizable in BIOS, hence couldn't use any software to extract the data, but I appreciate the responses.

data can be recovered from HDD even if it is damaged into two pieces. One of my relative has done it with the help of hardware engineer. Just take the help from some hardware engineer and you can do it easily.

If it is physically damaged send it off to be repaied with a Hard Drive repair company, or you can try GetDataBack wehich is good
