How to resize and optimize a bunch of pictures

Discussion in 'Photoshop' started by cgchris99, Jan 3, 2006.

I will be taking a bunch of pictures this week.

I need to be able to quickly resize and optimize them for display on my forum.
Is there a nice app to do this with. I normally use photoshop but there will be a couple hundred pictures to do. The thought of doing each one manually is not very appealing.

    Any thoughts?

Record a macro once and run it on all of them. Programs like Microsoft PhotoDraw which comes with your office have simple batch processing features too.

How can I run it as a macro on each one without opening each file running it and saving?

I want to be able to do this in a batch

    Try this:

    http://www.google.co.uk/search?num=...batch+process+entire+folder&btnG=Search&meta=

First Result states what you want (similar):

Create an Action in Photoshop and then batch it.

Photoshop has two ways to process multiple files quickly
    1. Batch Process
    2. Create a Droplet

Both are listed under FILE > AUTOMATE

Batch will run any one of the macros you have recorded in PS on all files in the specified folder. You can include or exclude subfolders, choose to save the files in any location (you can also record the "save" step in your macro instead of specifying it here), and some other options.

A Droplet is a small program (applet) that will perform the same function as the Batch processing. Just create the droplet from one of your recorded macros. When you want to process your files, simply drag them onto the Droplet icon and the macro will run.

Ive had good results with the batch process in Photoshop. It can be a pain to set up, but once you get the hang of it, its not bad

go to download.com - tons and tons of batch image processors (under image editing)... download one for free... all of them do batch processing for images...

Get Irfanview (google for it) and use its batch processing feature.

I'll try photoshop first since I already have that. Otherwise I'll try downloads.com.

Thanks all for the quick and helpful information.

Photoshop can do this very quickly. I did 15,000 images last year and it took about 12 hours or so.

    I like IrfanView also.

I've used photoshop also but irfanview seemes easier to set up. A little more straight forward. Not much of a learning curve as opposed to photoshop.

If you find you can't do it easily with Photoshop, give AutoImager a try. It can do this sort of batch image editing very well.
