I had submitted to few directories and one of them has given five links with no follow, so how to remove them. I had sent e-mail also to the owner but still the same. I had submitted to only one of his directories and he has added to five of his directories of his own with no follow. Need help.

no follow links won't hurt you and they still get indexed in msn and yahoo. I don't know why you need to remove them?

I heard on this forum that Google doesn't give any importance to such no follow backlinks.

nofollow = no good for seo. yahoo lists nofollow links in their backlinks but who knows how they treat them. it's probably a glitch anyway as nofollow is supposed to tell the SEs not to follow the link or give it any credit so if you expected to get a real link and he gave you nofollow links then he's ripping you off. Google respects the nofollow and the other engines should catch up if they aren't already there. I would ask for a refund and if he doesn't give it to you then request a refund through paypal (if you used paypal) and then escalate it. Paypal is supposed to have some guarantees and I got my money back for something although you will have to make your case.

Thanks Brian, It wasn't for paid links. It was free submission. I had sent hime the message but doesn't remove and those 5 links as you mentioned with no follows are all nonsense.

not if the directory actually gets traffic, the 5 links can still be visited by actual people.

If its a free directory then your shit out of luck. The owner has no reason to reply to your emails, let alone remove the no follow tags.

Move on, and submit to directories that are more SEO friendly. Check first if a directory uses no follow tags before you submit.

This one from SEO book is cool http://tools.seobook.com/

it's a Firefox extension. when you have it turned on it highlights all links on a page in red if they have no follow tags.

And wait till you use it to search on Yahoo, or Google. It will blow your mind!:D

Quickly turn it off or on by clicking the icon in your status bar.

If you don't have Firefox, then you can get this bookmarklet or this one for IE. There's quite a few around on the internet, though they can be hard to find... search for 'bookmarklets' and you'll probably find some interesting ones.

I wouldnt worry about the nofollow links in the directory....i can probably bet that its a PR0. Any respectable directory owner would not place nofollow on directory links because that would destroy any value to the webmaster. And unless the site is aviva or alive, I doubt that you would be seeing any traffic at all. Not that aviva or alive bring a significant amount of traffic in the first place, but you know what I mean. If its a free directory, which I believe you said it was, it will remain free because no webmaster will pay to have a link on a directory which puts nofollow.

Look at the source code to see if it says nofollow.

A few directory owners do not even know how to remove a nofollow tag on an individual basis because of the php aspect, even though they should. Some free directories and even some forums (not DP, but some other ones)
have the nofollow tags, unfortunately. Won't effect traffic, only pr
