Please help me i want to remove my indexed tag pages from google. Though it was my mistake to allow Google to index my tag pages. I'VE UPDATE MY ROBOT.TXT AND SITE MAP BUT IT IS ONLY APPLICABLE FOR NEW PAGES. PLEASE FRIENDS HELP ME TO REMOVE MY ALREADY INDEXED TAG PAGES FROM GOOGLE.
There are several things you can do to prevent Google indexing. Disallowing your tag pages in Robots.txt does not guarantee that they won't be showed in their SERPs. If other sites were to link to your disallowed pages, Google can still decide to show them if they think they are relevant even without crawling them. They will simply use the link text to construct a <title> to display in the SERPs, show the URL, and not include a snippet. The best way to prevent them from being indexed AND prevent them from being shown in the SERPs is to use a <meta name="robots" content="noindex"> element on the pages. This will also cause them to remove the pages from their index and prevent them from being shown in the SERPs if they are already indexed. If you can't do that then the robots.txt is your 2nd best option. Once the disallows are in place, log into Google's webmaster tools and request a URL removal on the the Remove URL tab of the Site Configuration -> Crawler Access page.
@Canonical i'm using wordpress if you please mention how can i add meta no index in my tag pages. I don't know how to add meta in tag pages because these pages are not present in my dir. How to edit the meta ?????? Please mention it. Thanks in advance.
Use All In One SEO plugin for Wordpress. In the settings page of it, you can choose to add noindex metatag for Tag archive. That'll fix your problem.
@digitech i have those plugins. I've allowed them to index tags through these plugins and now block them through these plugins last 3 days ago. In 3 days google visit 6 times but did not removed my indexed pages. Help me..............now they stop crawling my site though they visit and there is lot of new things to crawl.
You have to give it some time to get de-indexed. Alternatively, go to your Google Webmaster Tools and manually remove all the tag pages.
@digitech you mean to say all 6000 tags by manually??? Isn't there any other options can't i use wild card character to remove my URL.
I know 3 ways of non indexing any inner pages: 1. use meta tags <meta name="robots" content="noindex"> on those inner pages which you donot like to be indexed. 2. make use of ROBOT.txt and use the nofolow instruction to show which page you donot like getting indexed. 3. Update your sitemap.xml by deleting those links and update it on webmaster tools.

You can go to Google Webmaster account and submit your url for removal. It will surely get removed from Google listings.
Thanks all Google Removed my all pages. But One bad news is my search engine rank decreased a lot. Before this incident my site is in top 10 or top 20 but now they are in within 100 position.
This was bound to happen since you removed a bunch of pages at once. Just give it some time and keep building links. The ranks will be back.
