Thats a very good question!! And one that can affect us resellers who use template based stores.

Basically the problem is duplicate content. If a search engine detects multiple publications of the same content it will negatively affect your page ranking, as it sees the content as being copied/plagiarized. This can also happen when multiple URL's pointing to the same content, for example mydomain.co.uk and mydomain.com both displaying the same content. To help the search engine determine the 'prefered' original we can use the canonical link ref. See below.

if you are unable to redirect your website using .htaccess, you can use rel="canonical" tag.

Rahul, are you talking about the www vs non-www issue, or about something else?
sameer_max is right, you could use a canonical tag, but there are other options:
    - you can specify the preferred version of your site (www or non-www) in Google Webmaster tools
    - you can ask Google in GWT to ignore some of your URL parameters to avoid internal duplicate content
    - you can block duplicate pages from being indexed.

Thanx all for replying but rel="canonical" tag and .htaccess file both are not working and when I select option preferred domain in GWT it shows, Part of the process of setting a preferred domain is to verify that you own xyz.com. Please verify/xyz.com. Please reply
