    I reduced my pageload time from an average of 2.5 seconds to below .5 seconds

    I use gzip compression to compress the HTML and CSS code, I also do content caching as well. All easily configured in PHP.

    Also, you can check your sitemap account in webmaster tool and see the site performancece link in left pane to improve your site speed performance.
