How to recovery from a google penalty

I've seen alot of posts on here and other forums about the dreaded google penalty -30, -40 etc. I definately got one of these for 2 out of my 4 keywords. my site is relatively new and I was submitting to alot of directories, mainly using my the 2 keywords in question. My site was climbing nicely, then out of the blue it dropped from page 1 to page 5 for one keyword and from page five to nowhere for the other.

Its been about 3 - 4 months and today my site recoverd for both keywords. The steps I took were to be much more varied with my link anchor text & the descriptions around the links, and I've been adding more pages with origional, quality content.

simple as that. Just thought I'd post because I'm sure there's lots of people with their first website like me who have experienced the same thing... So there is light at the end of the tunnel

Just realised maybe I should have submitted this in the google section... oh well

I have had the exact same thing happen to a few of my pages in the past, and changing up my anchor text and building content as normal helped them return for good.

It took me a few hits back and forth to realize what happened. previously i just stopped building all links and they would come back, then i would build links with the same anchor text again and they would go away again..

Great info, happened to me once i just waited it out. Took about 4 months but i started ranking for my niche again. Make sure you are spinning all your keywords. When i do a massive campaign i will take the top 50 or 100 keywords im being found in google for and use that as my anchor text.

Many thanks for this. Very useful info - I've only ever had this happen to me once, but one of my sites has just fallen from p2 to p5/6 for one kewyword combination only - it's no 1 for a longtailed keyword and p1 for others but for one key combination I targetted the Big G has obviously decided the anchor text is not sufficiently varied. I'm sure it's nothing to do with onsite seo - haven't changed that recently - and so that really only leaves links.

Good to know that it will recover. The annoying thing is I'm p 1 for Yahoo and top or page 2 for Bing - so that really does suggest a penalty by Google.

My site dropped about 8 places. My site has been PR0 for more than 1 year now. I don't know what to do anymore to get out of PR0? Any advice?

try this website easysubmits.com , its great for speeding up directory submissions... I think they've got about 500 directories on their database and you can see the pagerank of the directory you're submitting to. It should help increase your page rank if you submit to high page rank directories

I tried easysubmits, pretty decent. I've got a PR3 right now, trying to make the bump up to 4 or 5... What's the best link building software?

I'm wondering if this has happened to my site. I get good results with every other related keyword except the two best, and for those I do not appear in the SERP's at all. Even got page rank on the last update but nothing for the two best keywords.
