Our server hung and I was forced to power cycle it. Upon restart, OG noted a few corrupt files (Global_.fp5, Emails_.fp5, Invoices_.fp5, etc) and suggested I recover them. I did the recovery, placing the recovered files (Global_recovered_ .fp5) in a separate folder. I then backed up the original (corrupt) files to a different folder, just in case, and placed the "recovered" files back in the original data directory (after renaming them to their original names). At this point, none of my workstations can "see" the files. It prompts me to locate them, and I can see the host as well as all of the OTHER files (ones I didn't do a recovery on). Why can't I see the recovered files? There are no spaces in the names, and the extensions are all correct (.fp5). I thought that maybe I should have left the recovered files named as they were in the "recovery" folder and let OG find them? Any help you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks -- barry
Heh, quite odd for us too.... our Filemaker server or the box itself hung as well... we've gotten used to these issues.... generally I do a recover on all the files that have a problem, *then* I use the opti installer to install again and re-upgrade the datafiles.... this has solved issues like all the files showing in the hosts window, or none of the files showing..... The fact we have to use an outdated and buggy database program has prompted us to start looking for alternatives..... Jon OWC
Double (triple) check the file names... (no spaces, with underscore, etc.) If they are okay, check that the database server is actually serving the files.
I verified the filenames were the same by trying to "copy" the original onto the recovered and renamed version. I got the "File exists. Overwrite?" message (paraphrasing). I ended restoring from a backup. Only noticed a few things being goofy, so hopefully nothing major is wrong with the database. That recovery thing is still a mystery, though.
I don't know how to check that. Is there a log file to look at or a testing program that I have to run? The crisis is over, of course, but it would be nice for future reference.
