New sites tend to get ranked better in MSN, I am not sure if this is still true for Bing. MSN used to have no/less sandbox.

Strategies for new sites is not different, keep working hard and be patient.

I think the most important thing for bing ranking is the same as google ranking... links!
I've never seen any evidence of a bing sandbox.
And I agree on hard work and patience! :)

Focus on your on-page SEO... but remember Bing won't bring you much traffic.

Do the same things you normally would with Google and you'll be set.

I think their ranking methods are different to Google, just like Yahoo's are.
6 months ago, one of my websites were getting about 1k traffic from yahoo+bing/msn combined. I had about 10-15k backlinks then. Now, I get about 20 unique view/day from Bing, and maybe 40-50 from Yahoo. However I'm getting almost 8,000-9,000 from Google. Now I have about 150,000-200,000 backlinks. It's obviously a different ranking method.

Focus on on page SEO and building backlinks with the keyword in the anchor text. They also tend to rank domains with they keyword in them higher then others.

Bing is so measurably behind Google in number of searches, why would you care?

    why care? It's called having a "plan B". :)
I think it's good to target both (with most of the focus on google of course).
I'll just add that the TITLE and keywords in your url seem to be very important to bing.

Bing seems to give preference to the sites that have the same domain name and title. For example, a site called Big Crazy Cattle with a domain of bigcrazycattle.com. Haters, the big crazy example is just an example so chill.

Bing is reat as a search engine because of its demographics which accounts for a large number of older people, 55 and over. So it all depends on your website product. I also noticed on some of my sites that Bing referrals tend to stay on the website longer.

I still havent figured out the SEO for Bing though. I tend to rank higher on Bing then on Google. If anyone has any ideas what algorythm they use share!!!

Here are some tips for you to optimize your website in Bing.

    1. Choose relevant and appropriate keywords to use. Even in any website, selecting related keywords to your site is essential as it will serve as key of your site in able to be visible in search engines. It also works in Bing SEO.

    2. Name your HTML site appropriately. If your page is into touch-screen gadgets, name you site as Touch-Screen-Gadget.html. Use dash (-) rather than underscore or slash (_, /) as it can be easily recognize by search engines.

    3. Ensure that your chosen title is correlated in your subject or website content. Optimizing of Title tag is very crucial in Bing SEO. Put your keyword search in the first part of the title. Those keywords should be appropriate for the contents.

    4. Register your domain name before time and avoid altering it needlessly. The age of a domain is also important when it comes to SEO. Bing has a tendency to like older website URL rather than newer ones.

    5. Add more text to your sites as Bing likes web pages having large numbers of content. But still add sensible content.

    6. Create Back links. Link building is a significant procedure of SEO. Get other websites to connect back to your website if you want to rank high on Bing. Bing will consider you popular thus give put you in higher rank in search result page.

    7. Avoid having complicated and ever-changing URL as it will result of difficulties for having it indexed by Bing search engine.

    8. Rank high in any search engine and you'll have high possibility to rank high in Bing search engine as well.

Now, you can start optimize your website to get high ranking in newest Bing Search engine by first do your keyword research.

Right well I don't think these are true. Google and Yahoo/Bing definitely rate sites differently and I'm not just on about a small difference. I get over 30k hits a day from Google, have thousands of backlinks and over 500k pages indexed.

Bing on the other hand is totally different and only sends 100-150 hits a day. Don't go suggesting something obvious like submit to their webmaster area either as I've obviously done that.

The domain name, which is 4 years old, doesn't have any relevant keywords in it (although the paths do) so I'm thinking this may be a factor as other's such as going2oahu have mentioned. Offsite seo is probably better than onsite due to the amount of inbound links. Maybe their's some truth in what people are saying about onsite being more important. If that's the case I suppose it should be easier to fix but I really can't understand bing. I've Google sorted and ranked number for all my targeted keywords but can't figure out what Bing likes. Whatever it is it's not the same as Google as people think and being high in Google does not guarantee you'll be high in Bing or Yahoo.

Oh it also annoys me when people reply with comments like "but Google sends more traffic". If your targeting people at work or college most can't modify their machines and have the default search engines and toolbars which is generally bing. Older people are far less likely to modify also. Just because you installed the Google Toolbar doesn't meant your 75 year old grandmother did or the old man at the office who doesn't know what a PDF is.

All 3 of the search engines index differently so you will always have a difference of page hits from each. The algorithms used are all well-kept secrets of the companies developers.
