Guys, need some advice. My blogspot.com blog is ranked #3. #1 is also a blogspot blog which belongs to my rival's. #2 is wiki. Objective is to overtake my rival's blog to reach #1 for this keyword. 1. I update my content almost daily and have more incoming backlinks than him by nearly 4 to 1. Maybe his has stronger incoming links? 2. Mine is PR2 and his is PR3. 3. His blog age is older. Mine is about 2 years. Can someone advise me what is to be done to reach #1? If you are on the first page of SERPS and ranked 3rd then you are not likely to gain too much additional traffic for all your hardwork. My advice would be to work on your site description meta tag and make it really stand out. The only way you can reach no1 is by building higher quality backlinks than your rivals. It is unlikely you will overtake wiki on this one.
Find out whats your rival doing extra than you. Find where your rival is putting backlinks. Post daily on that blog. I mean daily, subscribe them and post daily. And keep on doing social bookmarking, make squidoo, keep on digging, link building etc. I think it will work. good luck and btw I am really interested to see your blog here
Thanks for your replies guys. The strange thing is that there is this common advice for blogs which is to post as much fresh contents as possible as SEO spiders will come back more. But my rival's blog hasn't updated his blog since March 2006 yet is impregnable at #1. Even wiki can't overtake it. Funny, isn't it? I have analyzed the backlinks and have almost done everything you guys have suggested like social bookmarking, daily fresh contents, squidoo, blog commenting, article submissions, submitting RSS feeds to blog directories and nearly every known technique for blogspot SEO. Sorry Matsuri, I can't reveal the blog as it is a sensitive and commercial topic. That is why #1 spot will immensely improve the business image, and the gain in traffic or not is secondary.
Having higher number of backlinks alone does not guarantee higher position in SERP. Most of the time, it's the quality of the content with the use of the keyword. Hmmm...In this case, maybe you can try to focus on using anchor text instead and then create more contents based on those keywords and link them together. Hope that helps.
