Get more incoming links, ideally off sites with few outgoing links and a high PR.

Though bear in mind that high PR does not mean traffic or good SERPS.

What do you mean by "inbound" links. Links inside my site to other sites?

inbound links = incoming links to your site

Links pointing to your site are called backlinks or inbound links!

Incoming links is the key. One quick way to get a lot of incoming links is to write an article and submit it to several article directories.

Using this method I was able to get one of my sites to a PR5 very quickly.

it has pretty much been established that PR and SERPS are not really related. in fact there are several examples where sites with lower PR respond higher in the SERPS.

if this is the case, what is the point of PR?

PR hasn't got anything with positions on serps.

But inbound links that create your PR do, they give you position.

I could say, if you have big PR , your site is often crawled and cached that some site with small PR .

With big PR you have lots of inbound links and it is normally that crawler comes to your site by those links and crawl your site often.

i still dont think you have completely answered my question. or atleast you have still left me confused.

what is the advantage of a crawler coming to your site based on inbound links? crawling doesnt = sales or web site hits does it?

More often crawling and changing cache.
Maybe some reputation, crawler sees that your site is often updated and gives you some gift :D

Crawlers like when are sites often updated.
