    IMO, regular content updates can also help you.. e.g. when someone have read your contents/articles that was helped him/her a lot,, s/he can probably share it with his/her friends or in some forum sites like DP and will point a link to your site without your notice... link building w/o your notice... ;)

    another example of this was seotools... many SEO spclist point a links to your site to,,sharing that your site has an SEOtools...

    I see a bunch of people mentioned this and I agree. Link building is essential, weather is paid links, link exchange or blogs they all help. The better the quality of the link the more they help.

    How much do one-way directory links help? I get about 5 new ones a week from PR4+ directories but none of them show up as backlinks when I search Google.

    I dont think regular content increases PR, but regular content will help you gain backlinks which will ultimately help your PR...
