I'm in the same boat and the one thing that has helped me is to find a cigarette that you don't really like. That way you won't want to smoke so much. I've cut back from 3 packs a day down to one pack a day using this method.

Decide positively that you want to quit. Try to avoid negative thoughts about how difficult it might be. List all the reasons you want to quit. Every night before going to bed, repeat one of the reasons 10 times. Develop strong personal reasons in addition to your health and obligations to others. For example, think of all the time you waste taking cigarette breaks, rushing out to buy a pack, hunting for a light, etc.

Although they don't seem to work, try nicotine patches, nicotine gum, or electrical cigarettes. Also, keep yourself motivated and put all of your money you would spend on cigarettes somewhere that is hard to reach or get to so it makes it harder to go and buy some.

    Hope you quit soon!

Lock yourself away for a week, that's what I'll do when I decide to quit.

    I haven't quit yet............but

My mother and father after many years of smoking used the medication Champix and quit. They smoked for over 40 years and this was the only thing that worked, so might be worth talking with your Doctor about help if you're serious about giving up.
My older sister and her husband have since quit too (20 year smokers)with the
    help of this medication.

    Best of luck :)
Smoking is the most addictive drug and extremely hard to quit

I don't smoke, but...I have just decided to lose 90 pounds and get healthy and fit again. My epxerience was that I had to have a clear idea of why I wanted to do this. I hadn't been motivated by general health information, but realizing the risk of heart attack and stroke for me, personally, based on my weight and BMI, really helped.

And now that I've started and invested money and time, all I have to do is get up every morning and do what I've agreed to do that day. I'm not worrying about the next year. Some days all I can do is get to the gym and do my workout without passing out or throwing up. But once I've done that, I get excited about it, and that carries me through to the next day....

Depends on what occasions you smoke on. If it's when going out, you might want to consider going out with non-smokers. If it's at work, buy some fruits and a bottle of water to keep you busy. Also, reducing the stress level might help - if possible.

I'm really happy to hear that you are going to quit smoking.
(I'm a medical student and what I studied about the effects of cigarette is really horrible!!)
    you must have a plan.
I advise you to talk to a doctor.
It depends on how many cigarette you smoke a day and how many years you've been smoking.
    sevrage must done slowly.
    you can use nicotine patch.
sport will help you a lot.

I smoked for five years. I think every individual is different and has to find an answer for themselves. What you need to do is ignore all the buzz about it being HARD to quit smoking.. it really isn't. Don't get caught up in that. Get that thought out of your brain.. if you want to quit smoking you quit, if you don't you wont. What made me quit is at one point I realized that I am spending 9$ on a pack that lasts me a day which also kills me in the end.. I than started smoking less and less, until I fully stopped.

Calculate the amount you spend for smoking everyday.. If you are a chain smoker you will be really shocked by knowing the total amount you spent for smoking.. Obviously you will start to reduce... Try doing meditations when you feel like smoking.. Reduce it slowly and at last you ar no more a smoker.. All the best... Quit smoking gain healthy life...

The best way to quit smoking is via the DISTRACTION method.

Whenever you get the tendency to smoke, try doing something else instead of smoking.

eg. You can graba chocolate or drink a juice, listen to your favourite music. almost anything

You won't be successful right away, but this can help you reduce the number of ciggarettes a day and that in turn can tone down your addiction. Good luck.

    HOW TO QUIT SMOKING:

1 - Write down a date where you will quit smoking.
2 - From that date on, stop smoking.
3 - Make sure to use/buy nicotine patches/gum that almost TRIPLE your rate of success when it comes to quitting.
4 - Post on DP to take your mind off smoking
    5 - ???
    6 - Profit.

Good point - the money you safe when you quit will likely pay you a week of holidays. Additional motivation ;-)
