How to put my skills to use?

    Hey guys...

I'd like to know how I could put my skills to use?

I am good at Unix/Linux (basically *nix kernel types, including *BSD) and system administration. I can cluster servers and look after them, install control panels, log services and what not but still do not have a descent job. Is there anyone on the Internet who could offer me any?

My country is filled with morons, who keep people high if you know COBOL or ADA!

I can code to a certain extent in PHP / MySQL, if you want to take it as a plus point.

There might be some web hosting or other network related industries that could probably use your expertise. Either that, or it might be a business you could devote yourself to.

You sound like you have the skillset to be an asset to many web-hosting/dedicated server providers. Maybe somebody in your country is looking to hire. Starting web companies is not very expensive either and you can start small. Their is ALOT of competition though so you have to find a niche market.

If you are artistic, you can train yourself and become more of a web developer since you have some knowledge of PHP. Unfortunately, there are MANY web developers and you have to be good to get business.

    Good luck.

You can offer your service as a freelancer in sites like:

    www.scriptlance.com
    www.elance.com
    www.rentacoder.com

Where people post projects and pay for the work. You bid on the project with the hope to be chosen.

You can set up a site or blog and give tips and advice then offer a free give to build your list...You monetize it creating an eBook or video tutorials using camtasia.

Get a VPS and start your own hosting service. Then gradually grow and grow until you become rich... or just get a job at a hosting company and keep the same salary even if the company explodes and becomes the best hosting company on the net

    which ever you perfer

Now wtf is COBOL? I am sure you aren't talking about the pre-historic programing language that only num-skulls use it in the 21st century?

You could also try to browse big company websites like google or ebay and see whether they are searching an employee. You could apply as sys admin there.

Perhaps you could approach some major webhosting companies and become administrating their computers? Or perhaps set up webhosting company and parter with some salesperson - let him handle marketing/customer service and you would handle the server management.

Or perhaps simply get some unmanaged server, and sell management to people who want to re-sell webhosting.

If you are going around referring to people who know COBOL as morons and numbskulls... and yet you haven't a clue about what to do with the Linus/Unix skills you say you have....

I'd say that you don't have a real proper respect for what has gone before, and that it is your ignorance and arrogance that prevents you from getting decent employment.

Why not focus on your existing business and build the customer base?
