How to prove $400/mo profit for a website?

Discussion in 'Sites' started by spellsre, Feb 13, 2007.

Hi , I am considering selling one of my websites , it actually makes $400+ per month with adsense.

I have two questions for the expert buyers:

    1. How can I prove the profit? appart from screenshots? maybe some tracking code provided by the prospect?
    2. how much to ask for?

    thanks! :)

yep I would agree that in most cases its about 10 months of revenue.
You could always auction the site and let the market tell you how much its worth.

But it is a good rule of thumb, without knowing more about the site we have to guess, and 10x is usually a close enough guess.

To the OP: Just post some screenshots, what you want the auction to start with and the closing date, (look at other threads for help).
We will then ask whatever question we feel will help us make up our minds.

Most serious buyers will do their own research, (Whois, Google, etc...), before making an offer.
For $400 per months you need to be prepared to answer a few questions.

Screenshots are usually enough for most buyers - the only way to fully prove it would be to give them access to your adsense account (not advisable).

For a site of that value use escrow which protects both seller and buyer. Buyer has time to check the site out (and traffic) before approving the purchase.

For value, you would need to give lots more details for an accurate estimate. Don't listen to the "10x" people.

also you should have an URL channel... cause if its total $400/month and does not show any specific channel, it could come from anywhere, you know what i mean?

Traffic also has a price, sometimes there are websites with much traffic but in wrong hands and not monetized well, but in good hands it can generate 1/2/3 or even 5x of the current income

so traffic adds to the site as well as revenue ;)

Of course, but as I mentioned, we don't know enough about the site.
So to answer the OP, 10x the revenue is a good start.

If the traffic is great then they will be offered a lot more, (or someone will advise them better).

It all depends on the site itself.

I would be interested in looking at your website if you are still considering selling it.

10x is a good rule for simple adsense content sites.

If say however, you've had a site that is 11 years old, has been making $1K+ each month for the past four years with only 2 hours of promotion a week, than you should obviously be looking for more as the site is established and will most likely continue to produce revenue.
