What if someone simply copy/paste your site's content? How to sue him or even prevent him fromt he start from stealing your content? Is there an internet law body for this or it 's got to do with your country's law. I am in non-us ,non-european country so how can I protect my site's content?
There is no simply way to stop someone copying your content. Using javascript to disable the right click button will only frustrate users and does nothing to safeguard your site. If this has happened to you contact the site owner first. They have to keep their whois info up to date under ICANN rules & regs. Even if it is a private registration the email should be forwarded to the site owner. They may have purchased the content from an unscrupulous writer or they copy and pasted it themsleves. THey move remove the offending article after being confronted. If you get no satisfaction from the site owner speak with the company he uses for hosting. As a last resort check to see how they monetize the site and email the merchants or program reps. Make sure you give the owner time to respond before taking action. You should be able to work it out with them direct.
I'm in the same boat... I got someone that copied a lot of my content, images, and even my press release! Which he distributed on the same PR network! Amazing.... I'm currently looking to hire a copyright attorney.
Well, to protect content there is really little you can do. Aslong as you want people to accually see your content, you can always write it off by hand. By using CSS-design you could make the content pretty hard to cut'n'paste by placing layers above your text, or even splitting your text into a jigsaw puzzle which is placed correctly on the screen. However, you are back to square one as soon as your competitor have time to write it off. However there are some teqniques you might be able to use. Since your content obviously are written before your competior, be sure that Google and such indexes your content as soon as you have it online. This way, only maby, your competitor could be penalized with duplicated content. OK, not a huge penalty but atleast that page isnt indexed. I do not know how much truth it is in this however. Another way could also be to infact inform people on your webpage on this company which infact are stealing your content. This is probably not a nice guy anyways. Unless you are in the same industry that is. If you to are a Viagra seller, you might aswell start cut'n'paste yourself, if you know what I mean. regarding suing, you could email him informing him about what you are going to do and hope for the best. You could hire a lawyer, however being in a different country I do not think you get so far. best of luck. GoDaddy has C-Site which I believe might help you file a copyright on your contents https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/copyright/landing_choice.asp?se=+&ci=282
I almost forgot about this one. Just did a check and it seems one of my competitors has stolen text from our Easy Webshop products site to promote their own webshop system. Fantastic, Nice to see other Webshop-systems delivers excactly what ours does, Needless to say I have fired away an email to him questioning their behaviour. Since this competitor is also in Norway, and we are in Norway, i believe atleast this case will be closed in a matter of days. Thanks for reminding me of copyscape, I guess I will be signing up for a premium account. does using flash (to create a site) make it impossible to just copy the text as there is no highlight and copy feature, is there?
You make it harder, but still you are able to read what's on the screen, and you could always type it down manually... You could also make your entire website as a huge JPG/GIF image, this way you are also unable to cut'n'paste, but you destroy your revenue from the search engines. Your back to confronting the thieves. This has happened a few times to me, people using my articles at ezinearticles.com but amending the bio box to their own and claiming authorship to the article. I normally email them a cease & desist letter which has worked so far. http://www.utsystem.edu/OGC/INTELLECTUALPROPERTY/contract/cease.htm Like sebastya posted, copyscape is a great service to track down these thieves. Unfortunatly, it does take a lot of time which could be beter spent.
This is what I use: http://www.411-voip.com/weblock.html this will protect your website content for sure. No real way to defeat it. (just try)
