Hello, I have registered some domain at GoDaddy.com. I am aware that some domains get stolen. My question is what are the best ways to protect a domain name?! GoDaddy has put my domain in locked state. Is that enough?! What else can I do beyond having very difficult to guess password for my GoDaddy.com account?! Thanks a lot.
Activate your 1 GB Email Adress and start using it! If you are using a free email service yahoo/hotmail/gmail etc.. And update your account email with that.. And you may purchase a domain privacy
I have recently transferred a heap of domains from GoDaddy to Name.com. In order to do it I had to turn off the locked state, deactivate the private registration and have GoDaddy email me an authority code. At Name.com I had to submit the authority code. In the process GoDaddy sent me an email explaining the transfer process which had advice on what steps to take if I didn't commence it. All in all GoDaddy did the right thing (I'm sure others would be similar). Make sure that your admin email is yours. Use an email address not associated with your domain name, ideally as the other posted mentioned, gmail/hotmail/yahoo. Any changes to your domain account and you will be notified immediately.
For godaddy,i advise you to purchase their protected registration to make your domain more secure. More info http://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/protect/landing.asp?ci=9004
I have private registration, not sure if that is what you mean by protected registration. My domain is locked and as I understand any change needs email confirmation. Is it really ok to associate my domain with an email at a free service, such as yahoo or gmail?!
Yes, it really is OK. What are your concerns with using Yahoo, Hotmail or Gmail as your email address?
Which is best, Yahoo, Gmail or Hotmail?! Is not it true that the login password might be hacked on Hotmail?! Not sure about the others.
Anythings possible but if you are really concerned, as another poster has mentioned, select private registration and therefore hide your email address from the public.
