how to properly format the title tag

    hello all,

very first post. I was wondering if there was any best practice to format the page title.

As far as I know, a descriptive title followed by a | and the website name should be the right way. So far it worked pretty well on one of my websites, especially for those pages in which the descriptive title contains a word that appears also in the website title tag after the |.

Does anybody have similar experiences on the topic?

    thanks :)

i personally always go for having my keyword as first word in title tag, then followed by sub word unless there are 3 words or more in my keyword, i always advise customers to have as few words as possible in this tag,

If you are having keyword in domain then you can use it in first but still i dont recommend it as it will create your branding more than SERP. second put your most important keyword in first 30 character and use phrases rather than use keyword alone.

your keyword must be at the beginning of the title...ideal if your keyword - of at least 3 words - is your title, if your keyword has less than 3 words add some words at the end of the keyword

I've use "," commas and different name for every page with KW on it, like 2 to 3 Key phrases maximum, and also to avoid spider to make an assumption that I have only one page.

Focus on writing short titles - 62 characters or less for EACH page on your site(s).
Avoid filler words AND, OR, symbols, etc. unless they make sense visually
Put your most important keywords towards the start of the page

Most CMS software will also tag on additional titles at the end of your initial page title for smaller search engines.

Write titles that make sense to the reader.

The <title> is the most important On-Page element and every page should have a unique title. Because SEO/SERP placement is more important than "making sense to the reader", we use the following format:

<title>Internet Marketing Services : Expert in Search Engine Optimization, SEO Tips, Training, Professional Internet Advertising Agency for Affiliate Promotion & Online Marketing Consulting</title>

Although it does not meet Grammer, it does contain 18 of our keywords where "internet marketing services" is the primary keyword phrase and the others make up the "long tail" words.

We then use the Meta description to "make sense to the reader".
