    Hyja,

I just started a new Formula 1 forum.
How should u guys promote a new forum, is there still a place for that?

Ofcourse the backlinks, but how do you get people active on an empty forum?

    You carnt :(

Who would join an empty forum? The trouble with forums is people dont join them unless theres lots of members/an active community.

Yes the backlinks would help your site to be found, but people wont join.

When i look for a forum (usually for advice on how to do somthing), i might find 3 or 4 forums, but i usally sign-up to the most active one.

you need to get some mates to join, and keep at it, talking, asking questions, you might even need to have a few accounts yourself (false advertising yes, but it looks good to visitors who might join), maybe you could pay some people to do fake posts? (services section)

I'm sure you'll get some more advice matey, but thats just my 2 cents.

    Cheers.

I was planning to register a few more accounts myself :)
Just talk to/with myself would look good.

I have a nice newsbot that fill threads with newsitems, so i could react on it.

I have some friends who like motorsport too, so they can join. Maybe i want to go to fast :)

Sounds like a good start matey.

if people like the subject, and find your site, and see an active forum, with topics they can jump stright into it should go well.

    Good luck anyway :)

Do you have a few thousand visitors already visiting your site? You will probably need that to support the characters in your head. Not trying mean here, just realistic.

I tried a forum for my road rage site, and I just didn't have the traffic to support it. I started off with about 30 friends all inputing stuff, and me, myself, and I adding input. Got a few new members a week, half of them just trying to plug their own link, and it basically died off. I thought road rage was a for sure forum builder, but it doesn't really keep people coming back. It's not a resource, it a complaint can that people were reading more for entertainment...once and only once.

start some interesting topics and ask a few friendls or family to start posting there ;)

Make the forum search engine friendly so it get indexed to the search engines quickly and help bring traffic from them.

Also post and participate in competitor forums and see how they are doing. Try making friends there and maybe some of them will come and join ur forum.

    But this all takes time.

    Good Luck ! :D

Easy. Post formula 1 related videos. Viralize those vids by posting the link to other forums.

Hire forum posters. Hold a contest.

You can also do a "draw my cartoon" or custom fan signs type of promos.

Bring some uniqueness to your website and build some good number of daily visitors and then add forums.

Well the free way always works best to start off with.

Get backlinks from like minded sites. Get your friends to help you with posts, say once you have hit 1,000 posts or something you can stop.

Contraversy always works well, try to post some comments that people will strongly agree/disagree with, that should bait them into replies.
