directories maybe good for diversity links in order to mix up your link profile.
and you should only go for the top solid directories that carry some weight...
anything less will simply be a waste of time, and effort, and you could end
up with bad results if you submit to many; overall, directories are considered low quality.

I'm not sure if there any new techniques for SEO, I believe the SEO techniques still same but only the ways are different, its same like Web Directory submission.

Decade ago, Search engines would not mind if you submit your site in any Web Directory, or using any keywords you like as Title, But today, You need to use brand URL as TITLE.

As far as I know directories are dead, so try other methods to gain traffic.

I believe that the directories have ceased to be what they were, in fact years ago yahoo directory has been removed and DMOZ, this is a clear signal that they no longer fulfill the function they previously fulfilled

Directories are not completely dead, Just not as busy as they once was, In saying that new directory owners are heading more toward business type directories these days rather than a web directory.

Yes Directory links will help if you choose high Metrics like DA, PA & MozRank, and yes check if that is maintained by the human with perfect categorizations and relevant websites listing within the categories. This process does apply only in Directories but also in other link building methods.

    Choose carefully....avoid risk & penalty.

    Good luck...

I think directories have become more of a spam today. Putting every piece of shit without worrying about quality linking and categorisation. Most of the directories have high spam metrics on MOZ site explorer. And it could hurt you on rankings and might make your website look spam.

    So many seo.
Conventionally, there are 11 main stages of an SEO specialist:
    1. Analysis of the client site, themes and competitors. Formation of strategy and work plan. Actual for all types of sites.
    2. Collection and clustering of semantics, the formation of the primary core of search queries. Actual for all types of sites.
    3. Creating a broad site structure. Not relevant for specific products and narrowly thematic services that solve specific goals.
    4. Conduct an audit, the formation of tasks for the technical optimization of the site. Actual for all types of sites.
    5. Internal linking, increasing the internal weight of important pages for promotion. Actual for all, except for small sites, business cards and specific products.
    6. Content optimization. Actual for all types of sites.
    7. Work with the crawling budget. Actual for online stores, bulletin boards, services, where there is an opportunity to filter the results, and sort by different parameters.
    8. Improving site usability. Actual for all types of sites.
    9. External optimization, work with the reference profile. It is irrelevant for topics with low competition.
    10. Increase the conversion rate from visitors to customers. Actual for all types of sites, except forums.
    11. Step-by-step optimization of pages by sections, categories, implementation of improvements based on data analysis. May be irrelevant for small sites, business cards.
