I've only just started promoting...have tried myspace bulletins and bought a banner on a high traffic related site but haven't seen great results thus far. What methods generally get good results?
Do some hard SEO, get a better pagerank and try get up the search listings. unless it's a very niche video site you'll be pretty pushed to compete against youtube/google video/daily motion etc etc
I just recommend you a successful search engine optimization. Traffic will find you. Video industry is a lot of fresh then other content sites. So you'll have a chance to get listed at the top of the search results in varied keywords. Maybe it can be hard to be at the first page for "finance" "make money online" keywords but it can be easy for "paris hilton on david letterman" keyword. Also video sites can grow quicker than content sites. It's about the easy access to huge content for free. Good luck on your site!
make a video of your videos collection present on your site and upload it on youtube . Make sure your video shows your website link all the time. If found interesting content then people will come to your site directly. Works great for any site. one of my beat ways to advertise my sites Thank me
Not the best idea out there but illegal videos.. if you get an episode of a tv show or so and promote that you'll automatically get visitors. I wouldn't recommend it though..
