How to promote new blog?

1. Downloaded Wordpress
2. Installed it
3. Found a nice template and installed it
4. Installed needed plugins
5. Set my blog to ping a lot of servers when a post is made
6. For 2 days, posted like 20-30 things. (I know this is too much, but not for the subject of my blog, i am sure)
7. Mailed a lot of friends who may be interested in the subject
8. Submitted my auto generated and self-updating sitemap to google

Now what? What can i do to promote my blog further? Any help is appreciated.

Awesome resources, Keith. But remember, dudes: what will make the difference between a great blog and a good blog is going to be the quality of your posts. You can get a lot done by promoting a blog, but when you have a lot of good content, you will realize that others will do the promo for you by showing your blog on forums, linking to individual posts voluntarily and getting your name out in all sorts of ways.

It doesn't matter how many directories you stick your blog on - like Mike said, it's all to do with the quality of your blog articles. I found this out pretty quickly on my travel blog, and I can't be bothered wasting time submitting to blog directories simply because people link to me without even asking for a link back.

If it's a new domain, then its going to take up to 12 months to rank for competitive keywords in Google, due to the sandbox filtering on new domains, indexed.

So in this time write quality content that people are going to want to link to, blog entries like top 10 seo tips or top 10 hositng companies - people like this kind of content and will link to it.

 

Wow, I am going through some of the registrations for the blogs. It is like pulling teeth.

 

To me personally there is nothing more refreshing than a "real" blog, where you can feel what the writer is trying to get across. You can tell, that he/she puts his/her heart into it. No offence, but having spent so much time on DP, you get to see a ton of garbage blogs. Most of us are guilty of doing things for the search engines instead of just writing out our messages. With all of the resources this community has to offer, one would think that there'd be a dozen blogs amongst DP members which are somewhere on the top 100 list of the best and most successful blogs ever.
