    hmmmm hosting site?

There is a lot of competition in it. I think you should start by adwords. Remember that you need to spend a lot first. Dont expect any profit in start.

Start refferal system and some promos for DP memebers.

Advertise as much as you can

You have choosen a very tough industry. There are several ways to market a website that includes SEO, PPC Adv., Banner Ads on specific website, email marketing, and SMO (Social Media Optimization).

SEO and SMOs are very cost effective methods. It needs patience to get results through these strategies. Rest of the methods are expensive but will give you rapid results. Its totally depends on your bedget.

Well, not sure if these traffic tips apply to your situation, but check it out.

If I were you, I'd start offline. Ask your parents, friends, friends' friends, relatives, coworkers and their pets if they'd need hosting. The online world is crowded, but you can start pretty well by going offline (and can price higher too).

You can buy some adwords ads, keep posting in this forum and you can have a signature where you can set a link to your site, plus blog commenting on blogs... thats for a start :)

Hosting firm niche is very competitive you need to offer free space or some thing which others r not offering.

Promote ur web via adwords or yahoo marketing or adbrite. Hire someone for seo tasks. (off page and on page)

    Build back links.

Well its very easy to promote this kind of site such as post your offer at webhostingtalk and DP under "Webhosting" section.
Beside that, you can try to submit your link to directory and yellow page.

I don't think that would be very successful if you're advert in the youtube video isn't been viewed by your target audience.

Personally; since the market is so saturated; the best chance you have to pull customers would have be through forums; so I would suggest that you register to so many Webmaster, Domain and Hosting related forums (there are so many hosting related forums) and use them to become a member (have your link in your Avatar, Location and Signature); and post threads advertising your service in the marketplace's (all webmaster forums have this). Plus; if you are a reputable member in large forums (e.g. DigitalPoint and FreeWebSpace), then the chances are that your hosting will be used by people who read your posts/topics and possibly pass it on to other members/friends.

SEO is also great; so get as many backlinks as you can from directories...etc but you shouldn't really focus on getting customers from these places. Your keywords should be nice two/three word phrases (use Keyword Tracker to find these) as one-word hosting related keywords are not worth trying to compete with because its simply too strong.

I wouldn't spend anything on Adwords just yet, until your hosting has survived for 6 months (12+ months usually) because many people would rather go for a host who has survived for a long period of time (many hosts are started every week and so many die too), I myself don't go with new-startup hosts and I know theres many website owners out-there who do the same.

    Good luck :)

Hosting, hmmm, very hard niche, lot of competition, but as far as promoting goes, you do everything, think out of box, maybe it's good to advertise it on youtube, but in a way that you make some promo videos, you make one plan that cost just 1$ a month, for all those kids or people who doesnt know anything about making a web site, but think that would be cool, or maybe for some business people who just wanna have a web sites on their business card, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to offer those kind of people some tempaltes that would serve the purpose.. Just get exposed, and remember, it is a hard niche, but if you think out of box, you can make it...just like with everything else..
