How to promote my site?

Guys, I've been running this site for 2 years now with little to no success. I think it's time I got some insight as to what I'm doing wrong, and I'll do whatever I can do to improve it.

I'm running a fansite for an online game that is dying. The game is dying because the community is messed up. Official forums for the game are down, so a fansite took over and all the members became jerks now. So I made a new website to help the community.

It's a game fansite. I'm wondering what else I need to do to make my website popular? What content I need to add? How I have to advertise?

    Please and thank you in advance ^^;

Why would you keep plugging away at a site that is dieing? Time to move on. It's the good money at bad scenario.

I really want this to work out. It's a great online game, with possibilities of tournaments, events, and so much more. Just that the most popular fansite is a failure and treats the members really badly.

That is a nice looking site, and is a good market as well. Is it a Joomla template? As far as promoting your site, there are many ways you can do so. The main thing you need to is create a newsworthy brand name. Give people a reason to want to come back.

We offer many services for promoting websites, but the main one is social bookmarking & blog article submission. If you get a chance, take a look at what we can help you out with http://www.bmd-media.com/link-submission-marketing/

Well basically you need to spread the word out, submit articles, submit your website to search engines and directories, create social bookmarking profiles, youtube videos, post on gaming forums, write relevant articles (or hire a writer), etc...

Ok get a paper and pen----

Here is what you are going to need to work on with this site. I took a look at it....
    Meta keywords: joomla, Joomla
Meta description:Joomla! - the dynamic portal engine and content management system ** Need to work on both of these...

Also your KEYWORDS: gunz revolution - those are the main keywords you are using. You have nothing that describes that this is a Gaming Website.

    You don't have any back-links.

No Social Bookmarks - Digg It / Stumble

Once you have worked on those things first then:

*All of these site's are free*
Build a Lens: to get traffic to you

JOin LinkReferal: to get traffic to you

We should work on 2 or 3 sites in parallel, so that if one dies we should have other.

The universal truth of traffic building is this: you need to find sources of eyeballs that care about your site's topic, and then get your links in front of those eyeballs.

I know nothing about Gunz so I don't know what those sources are.

Article marketing? Social bookmarking? These things could work, but they tap into mostly untargeted traffic.

Over time, however, they will improve your search engine rankings. In the long run, this will give you targeted traffic.

Look for places on the Internet where Gunz players go. Get exposure in those places. Your exposure can be paid (example: buying ads), or it can be free (example: making forum posts with a link to your site in your sig). In the long run, it's not too important whether you buy your exposure or get it for free; make this decision based on which you can afford to spend more of: money or time.

That's the basic principle of building traffic, really. Find places where targeted eyeballs are going, and get in front of them.

Two other things that will make your quest less painful:

    1. Remember that all promotions have a shelf life. If you get ranked in the top 10 on Google for a relevant keyword, often the shelf life of that promotion lasts pretty long before other sites knock you back out. On the other hand if you post to a forum with your link in your sig, that promotion only lasts until people stop reading the threads you posted in. So, be prepared to maintain/repeat all your promotional campaigns.

    2. Make efforts to RETAIN the traffic you attract. The easiest way to do this is to get the email addresses of your visitors, and mail them from time to time to remind them you exist. You are unlikely to get people's email addresses unless you offer a fair amount of value on your site, so this is one of the reasons that it's important to actually have GOOD content on your site.
