For almost free, just go to your local grocery store and put fliers on people car widows. You can usually fit 3 or 4 copies of a flier on a single 8.5X11 sheet of paper

You can also look for free ad papers and place a ad.

Definitely advertise in those free circulars in supermarkets...or post an ad on a supermarket cork board.

Craigs List comes to mind. Also one of the easiest ways to get high page rank for your keywords is through video marketing. Be selective with the keyword string you pick and you could get some very targeted traffic.

You could send a press release to local papers.

And network with other local web sites.

See if you can get your site set as the homepage at a Cyber Cafe for a bit of cash.

Get a big helium balloon (a large kite can work) and put your ad on it. An attached sign is best so you can experiment without wasting the balloon. Let out about 50 to 100 feet of line and then tie it off to your balcony. You'll have to experiment. You can also tie a "streamer" to the balloon several feet down for additional attraction. Put your URL on that too of course.
Put one at a friends house also if they will let you.
It works very well to generate curiosity and is very cheap. ;)

This type is a little more pricey but is well worth the investment for cheap reusable local advertisement.

It's not free but will pay for itself in one day so perhaps borrow $100 from your brother? :)

If you have a printer, print out a number of leaflets and distribute them in places your target customers are likely to visit. If there are any gatherings near you (school fete, local fairs etc) visit and spread some word of mouth. For free promotions, there's always a price to pay through increased effort. Best of luck.

Local trade shows, and local events are a good place to start. I recommend visiting trade hows, and handing out some business cards, hats, book marks, pens, flashlights,,, stuff like that.

The local chamber of commerce should have a listing of events in your area - such as beauty pageants, parades, fund raisers, stuff like that.

Tap into some of the big fund raiser events, such as relay for life - you can make a donation, be active in the community, help organizations raise money,,,,

Brilliant. Simple and effective. You could string it up just about anywhere as long as there are people passing by or in the area. NICE!:)

Use google local. This is becoming more and more popular. If you work on it now you can get tons of customers in the near future.
