Hi..Friends I have a one free directory site http://www.postsubmit.com. Its a instant approval directory with PR 3 Can someone please tell me the best ways to promote a Directory website. How do I bring traffic to it and attract people to submit websites on my directory site.
if you talk about content generating, probably you can propose your site to this auto submit software, they can add your website in their list so those who use their software submit their content will appear in your website
Best way to improve the traffic for directory websites is to do blogs commenting and forum commenting and find the discussions where people are in talk for directory submission websites.
First of all, ADD LOTS AND LOTS OF CONTENT in it. The more useful resource it will have the more better will be for you. Secondly try to submit your directory in popular directory list service provider. If possible, submit your directory to Dmoz. Prompt it through post of review thread in popular forums where webmasters and SEO professionals are having regular visit.
basically You don't need to do this thing because with the passage of time you can see gradually increase in your traffic, apart from you can put your directory in signature link and you can do forum posting in all webmaster forum.

This question was asked before some time now, but I am posting it here and it may help someone else to make a kick start of a brand new website promotion. There are lots of strategy for promoting website but I am describing one of them here Gather information about your website and make a list including logo, website title, description in few lines, keywords, banners, etc... Create account on email providers like google, yahoo, live, etc... Go social by creating account on social media and book marking sites including FB, Twitter, LinkedIn, StumbleUpon, Reddit, Tumblr, Digg, Delicious, Expertfile, naymz, diigo, squidoo, friendster, apsense, etc... (there are many more). This step will provide initial booster for your site. It does not bring traffic to your site but I am sure that it will start showing your brand name at some place and will help later to increase traffic of your site. Submit your site to free but good web directories. You can ignore paid directories at the initial stage. Start a blog and provide good content to users. Be specific to particular area related to your site and try to concentrating on providing best content without taking care of traffic it generates. Sooner of later it will help if content is interesting and unique. Submit free press releases Try to update all those social accounts frequently (if not possible daily then do it at least weekly) This steps will definitely help. Again I want to mention that this is one of the strategy to start promoting your website and there are other also exists and working well for many sites you can find those by making search with google.
People don't do much directory submission these days... If you can make your directory actually useful for people to search for, rather easy for submitting, you can exist... Directories need to be useful, not easy to submit
I would do just those things (I am talking from my own experience as I do own a good PR4 directory!): -> promote (or exchange links if I could say so!) with other directories; -> promote on Social Media sites (you can use Twitter or Facebook with specific hashtags and in Facebook on related pages/groups); -> promote on forum threads related to SEO; And a few more, but those are enough for a great start!
Hey guys! I'm in the same boat and have two questions. I've just launched Hens Central (www.henscentral.com.au) a directory for hens party suppliers in Australia. I've made it as clean and user friendly as possible. I've also paid a writer to start putting together content for Hens Party Ideas, which is the highest searched google term when it comes to Hens Parties. 1) can you give me any feedback on how to make the site better, as i think i've done everything i can 2) I've given 1 or 2 suppliers from each category a free listing, in hope that when i contact their competitors they will want to pay for a listing, any issues with this?
Hey mate in addition to starting your own blog have you thought about writing guest posts for popular female blogs and online magazines? This site is a directory of Australian Women Bloggers so you should find it to be pretty useful
