Get additional backlinks. Introduce your site at forums.
    Good luck...

That's a good way to start but there are other ways. I think I listed Site-Sift in maybe 2-3 web directories that's it. If Site-Sift shows up in more it's b/c people just added it........ My point being look at other ways for people to like your site. i.e. design, function, backlinks, SERPS

AND one of the most important is just being visible on the forums. Don't SPAM just be helpful to others. :)

I think its more than a good way. If you don't have a budget it is one of the best ways.
Lots of people are working those lists. 1000's.

The fastest way is the get your site listed in some paid search directories. Coz paid directories spend a part of their earning to keep their page rank and traffic level high.

Giving stuff away always works. Target the free stuff at the type of audience you want to attract. Links work for webmasters. Buy PR to a links/resources internal page, wait till the toolbar updates, and offer webmasters free links from a PR5 page. Post it in as many webmaster forums as will allow it. And one or two other places where webmasters hang out (specialist forums - like ones for webmasters in the adult industry).

How does giving away links help you? It creates a buzz. People talk about you, email other webmasters, mention you on blogs etc. Long after your page has gone back to a PR0 you'll still be benefitting.

I agree, I get 50-100 people visiting my list most days. There are a number of other SEO sites with lists that I'm sure have regular visitors. If I owned a directory I'd try to get on every list I could, you then have SEO's promoting those lists (which means your site) for free.

Definately jump on opportunities such as this. As far as submitting to directories be they paid for or not or PR status or not it won't really increase traffic. What I think is overlooked is that there are directories of directories that people use just like directory lists and those generate traffic.

Get on those list and directories of directories and they'll work for you. Post in the forums sure but you'll be the one working for traffic, not the list/directories working FOR you :D .

Thanks bobmutch, had to create the link. The page originally would only display sorted by PR, I had to add the ability to show the whole list.
http://www.topwebsitetips.com/FreeLinks-Directories.aspx?a=a will show the whole list.

http://www.topwebsitetips.com/FreeLinks-Directories.aspx Will sort by PR or other filters by your choice.

Kind of worries me a little, Google recommends that you do not have more than 100 links to a page. This page at this time has over 450 links, and eventually will have much more, will Google look at this as a link farm?
