The best thing would be to tweet many times through out the day with relevant information regarding your site. In addition you can search for people that are talking about your product/service or a related topic and follow them and send them a message introducing yourself and your site. The best way is to get involved and interact with people.

I find it the more tweets I post, the more people unfollow me. When I just post a few tweets a day I gain followers. So, too many tweets will just annoy your followers unless they 'really' want to listen to what you have to say - i.e. you're a celebrity and people love to listen to the rich and famous :)

True.. I should have mentioned the tweets should be very relevant and open ended to encourage your followers to interact with you. But good point. Don't over do it.

Bottom line with twitter promotion is the more social you are with others the more followers you get so when you do make a tweet promoting your site. Most of your followers visit your site.

Avoid tweeting marketing links as your primary message. Interact and be social. Put in links to your site when it seems relevant. Be sure to optimize your profile page as it can rank well and quick with search engines.

Most companies will just annoy customers through twitter.

    You need to offer value

Value = current, related news as it is happening or valuable promotions or contests

A nice anaology I saw on a promotional video recently was that Social Media marketing was like a party and although you can occasionally mention your work its rude to constantly bang on about it. Once in a while 'invite people round to yours (website) for a really good offer party' but the rest of the time just be a nice friend and a good expert helping them out. Seemed to strike a chord with me. I searched someone with a same interest as my website but all he did was advertise to me - sorry but I aint interested in that! Share interests - dont advertise to me. Makes sense so what I'm doing is working out how I can add interest but not directly advertise.
    Hope this helps

Experts, webmasters who know what they are doing when it comes to marketing/advertising, do not mess with Twitter.

Only delusional noobs with dead sites who post on boards will say different. They post crap just so they can be heard; be part of a disucssion, to seek attention.

I have a twitter plan and am documenting it on my blog below but I can't reveal it here. But I can tell you I see in gold in marketing on twitter in a certain way only.

In my opinion, have a lot of followers doesn't mean you will get ton of traffic, try to find followers who interested in your niche.

I have followed the advice of many prime online marketers and applied it to twitter.
The end result (so far) has been around 375 clicks to affiliate links dropped infrequently.
    Sales and leads?
    ZERO

Not a very willing crowd in that regard.
Time better spent on other marketing techniques.

I've been using Twitter to get traffic to my blog. All blog posts get automatically posted to Twitter and it brings in visitors to the site. You just have to get followers first.

Traffic that comes from twitter is not good as traffic that comes from search engine.

Twitter is more for web site and people who are already known IMO. I believe that its used more for expansion rather than starting with it from zero.

    1. create a bit.ly account

    2. create a twitterfeed .com account

    3. copy your website rss feed into your twitterfeed .com account

    4. select "bit.ly" in the twitterfeed you just created

    5. get your bit.ly "api" key and copy/paste into twitterfeed .com feed that you created

    6. Publish posts to your site.

7,8,9,10 you post = twitterfeed catches the update -- then posts it as a tiny url with bitly to your twotter account.

follow me on @ephazi... I have all my blogs posting with this method... Easy Peasy

By the way.. I make 400 bux a month off my twits from my blogs - So yes it's easy if you do it right.

    $400, huh?

Experienced webmasters know that is BS a mile away.

Ugh. I just love it when posters make stuff up. They seem to do it a lot here on this board more than the others for some reason.
