How to promote a tech tutorial site?

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by sz2006, Dec 16, 2006.

I started a tech website, about programming, web design and other tech tutorials. But I have no idea about how to promote a tech-info site like this. I did some directory submission, social bookmarking, and article submission, but seems the result is not as good as expected.
Anybody could give me some suggestions, or share some of your experience?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, that's what I thought too. I tried to post some of the tech stories from my site to Digg. Then several days later, my whole site got banned by Digg.

SEO your site and put quality content on it!
People will find your site themselves.

    HI,

I too maintaining a tech site(ww.javabeat.net). You have to concentrate more on adding the contents and don't forget to submit to the pouplar forums. For example you are running Java articles, so you have to annouce in a java forum that you have a website with java artilces. I am doing the same technique.

    Thanks,
    Krishna

You only post things people havent read or know yet on digg... not every single page of your site. Thats what probably got you banned.

Thanks Krishna, but the problem is when I tried to announce my site in tech related forums, it was taken as a spam. What could I do? I don't have much time to be a serious poster in many other forums.

I know that tech forums are very important as all of them are my potential users. But most developer/programming forums have very strict rules for website announcement.
How to promote my site in forums?

Why not create a few good tutorials for free? Word like that gets around fast. People will probably link to you for free as well out of appreciation.

    1) Distribute a free tech/programming related article

    2) Register to all the web design/programming forums and post some quallity posts with a sig attached.

Surf around and imitate the marketing headlines of the pro's, such as:

"FREE Traffic from Google, Yahoo and MSN...Click Here to learn more!"

As you can observe there is something in it for the reader and they will want to investigate your claim.

Use this approach in your forum sig and let the reader decide for themselves if they want to see your site. Starting posts to advertise your site is considered spamming.

Of course you will want to back up this claim with quality content or they will click out as fast as they clicked in.

    Mike
