EXACTLY, your directory is not user-friendly. The logo must needs re-make. When I first visit your site I didn't understand what is that because when you say "directory" it has a specific layout in minds but yours is totally different and doesn't look good to me at least.
exactly? you make it sound like I am admitting my site is not user friendly. frankly, I dont see how its not. maybe I'm going on a assumption that people will be able to think outside of the box when it comes to directories. what is so different about my site? you have categories and subcategories, just like any other website. the submission guidlines are very clear. common sense really. if it doesnt look good you, ok fine, I can live with that. but saying you have some sort of mental block when you visit the site becuase its not "normal", well then I suggest opening your mind a little bit.
@Allmyforums, i think better you combine banner + description, i go to your directory but i not found content there, what i found is banner... yes i know banner will attract people to, but i think better you add more information.. like what is it behind the banner.. sorry my poor english
If you want to get forum owners to submit, you're first task it to get the word out to forum owners; i'd suggest registering at some of the forum software sites. For instance, I use simple machines software. If you go to simple machines's forum(http://www.simplemachines.org/community/), you will see threads posted by lots of forum owners. Add a link in your sig and many forum owners will see links to your new site and probably start submitting...i assume you cold do the same at phpbb and vbulletin(?). As always, you need to be careful and not come off as being spammy.
excellent suggestion. I've been doing this on vBulletin sites. and you are right, its a fine line to walk on whether I'm accepted to a community or a spammer.
You're using javascript to load the content into the main frame. This means you only have 1 page. This means Google will not index any of the listed sites. Bad times...
ok. but the backlink will count for the listed site right? what do you suggest I do? thanks for your help with this.
There are off-the-shelf directory scripts which have been honed over many years to provide features which directory owners and submitters want. You have a domain and some content which you could integrate with for example the new phpld script which has some great new features. Then you can easily make your site unique by adding unique modifications and template.
have you checked out phpld yet? the old version is free, and I hear good things about the new version. there are definitely mods for phpld. Most directories these days seem to be phpld based.
o yea yea. php link directory. I thought he meant something else. the problem with that is "most" directories use them. I am trying to be different.
There was once a guy who tried to be different regarding directories, and it didn't work out for the poor fellow. I wont mention his name but....lol Sometimes what you need is right under your nose but being adamant that you're going to do it differently will usually create more headache for you than anything. Why make an easy task more difficult?
Like several have already suggested, I also agree: 1) You must make it a valuable resource by adding forums to the directory - this will give you visitors 2) I have to be honest I don't like the setup at all. I would prefer something more simple and text based like typical directories. But like I said in PM, I will be adding something to your directory to get you started
i understand your desire to be unique but like pipes implied it's tough to re-invent the wheel. the most likely chance, imo, of standing out is not from using a different script (ie avoiding using phpld) but rather from having a unique niche for your directory and making sure that you only allow quality sites to submit.
