How to promote a niche (forums) Directory?

My directory has been up for only about a month so I'm really new at this. I was wondering if you smart people can give me advice on how to promote my niche directory.

submissions have been slim. anyone know why?

also, how often does google update PR? I remember reading that they just recently did an update, so when is the next one?

fyi, the directory is much different then traditional directories, maybe thats a reason why no one is submitting?

You could promote it in other directories.

PR updates are about every 3 months.

You should go after getting high PR, and people will eventually come. People submit to directories because of PR, mainly.

Promote your directory like you would every other site. First open a thread in the Solicitations & Announcement section of this forum and invite members to submit their links. Add unique and quality content to your site and not garbage. Amass quality back links from other sites. Make sure your contents are updated on a regular basis. Optimize the keywords you think people use when they search for forum directory.

right. I'm learning about this after the fact. (of starting it) that said, I was hoping forum owners would submit given the uniqueness of the directory.

but this will be easier maybe in a few months when hopefully I gain some PR.

These days PR is loosing relevance. So try to get traffic.

    To promote it --
look-out for high traffic webmaster sites because its them who own those forums.

Look for traffic -- and webmasters will look for the same.

What traffic are you looking for? Webmasters to submit their site or users to browse the directory?

both. but not webmasters, forum owners.

obviously I need one before the other. (forum owners to submit before people actually browse)

I suggest you start by adding some good forums yourself to each category. Hopefully when a forum owner browses your directory he will more likely want to be listed amongst his peers than on a blank page.

You could also join more webmaster forums, become active and have your directory in your signature.

Adding links to the directory yourself is vital. It's what every owner should be doing, not relying on other website owners to submit.

so you see no problem with me taking their logo+link and adding it manually to my site?

(serious question, I really couldnt decide if that was ok to do)

You can put their link on your site, providing you don't write slanderous stuff about them.

You can do it if you like, they might not like it though.
