Any idea on how to promote a news tracker website. My site tracks news for several blogs and news sites. It fetches their RSS feeds, process them and match relevant stories. The most popular stories are displayed on the site along with the latest stories. Right now everytime a story hits front page I submit it to social bookmarking sites like digg. After 2 weeks of this I'm getting between 150 - 400 unique visitors per day. I seem to have reached a plateau. Should I expect a better pagerank, hence more traffic from search engines, over time because of the increasing number of backlinks from the social bookmarking sites i submit stories to? I'm still increasing my backlinks posting on as many do-follow blogs. Any idea on how to promote it further?
By the way, I run a similar news aggregating site, http://StinkyWorld.com As an aggregating site, it's hard to get a lot of traffic. I suggest starting a blog with original content. In the long run, it will pay off much more than simply scraping content from other sites.
Yup, I do stumbleupon too. I'm not really scrapping content off other website ... Gozzipz is definitely NOT a scrap-blog. I fetch stories from several website and process them all to display only the most popular, up to date, stories on the homepage. No voting on the stories, and all stories don't necessarily appear on the homepage either. I've seen other news tracker website in other niches bring in decent traffic. And one was bought by the NY Times for several millions ... I tried researching how they started, what their early marketing strategies were. But I can't find much information unfortunately.
