There are many ways to promote you site such as:
- yahoo answer
- yahoo group
- free classified ads
- free traffic system

 

Be visible every where which means social bookmarking and networking sites. There is no need to think about it, just see the visitors there and bump into the stream.

yea you have to do some ON page and OFF page SEO. ON page seo includes having a decent keyword density and offpage SEO means making some backlinks to your site. But don't overdo the backlinks on a newly created site. Firstly focus on Social Bookmarks and stuff.
This will help with the google rankings fo the site.
For more promotion you can use forums and youtube etc.
