Press release, ads on classified sites and promoting through social networking sites may also help you.

Is there anything special and unique about the product?

If so use this to promote the product anywhere you can. Offer the product for free to bloggers/sites related to the same field and ask them if they would mind reviewing it.

Buying some cheap text links on a related site.

    Hope this helps

Some good advice but nothing on quick return. I am in the same situation. I bought a website and product. Redesigned both but sales are trickling? Any advice on pushing a media script product?

Article marketing and Social Bookmarking can get you some traffic pretty fast, on top of PPC

How many people go to utube to watch endorsment videos? Unless you do a vid unrelated to selling and spam in the video. Not knocking the idea, just how would ya do it and have something that people are going to watch.

Usenet posting can be very helpful, depending upon your market.

Try writing a press release for your product as well as articles, and blogs. Don't forget about forums as well. This is the best way that I can think of if you're just starting out. Press releases may cost a bit, but here are some free PR sites that you can check out.

    Prweb.com
    Prfree.com
    Free-press-release.com
    Ereleases.com
    Internetnewsbureau.com/inbnewsletter
    Click2newsites.com

Some preparation of keywords required but you could submit your website link to directories for free. Try the free directory submitter from Brad Callen.

Also find high PR blogs related to your topic with both nofollow and dofollow tags where you can leave a decent comment. Look for free version of CommentHut for nofollow blogs (Yahoo and MSN still take notice of no follow links) and do a search for 'list of dofollow blogs' to find the ones that will gain you favor with Google.

These backlinks should both help bring you fast traffic and help your search engine ranking resulting in more traffic as well.

write article related to the product you are planning to get more customers and submit the article to article directories.

Then build a blog for this product, post review on other similar group of blog owner to get them to buy from you if your product is information and good for their knowledge.

Do you speak from experience using adwords? I have heard good and bad results from that. It can be expensive. ??

Yes, because Adwords (TM) has a click fraud rate of up to 30%, according to Click Forensics,(http://clickforensics.com/Pages/Releases.aspx?r=07192007) and there is so much competition per key word. Also, your ad will show up on some unethical publisher sites, and you'll be charged. And when your competitors click on your ads, you'll be charged.
What you need is contextual ads on top of a behavioral database. I'm sending you a PM :)

If you are looking for fast results, take the time to look for the top sites in your particular niche. Contact these site owners and try to set up a joint venture. Look for owners who have mailing lists. Offer them a minimum of 50% to promote your product. Give them (for free) a copy of your product to evaluate.
