I have been developing the look and content of my blog for a little while now, and I am looking for a smart strategy to start building links and start working my way up the page rank scale. If you had to promote a blog from scratch, what would be your strategy? Mike

I think originalthechad did his research, his web site has a pretty extensive list which is pretty complete. Obviously you don't want to miss the big directories from the major web sites which himanuzo has mentioned. -Swapw
Sumbit your blog to Blog directories, social networks and rss feeds ... Ohhh, and you can do a little SEO for it Good luck
1) Submit your blog in blog directories & blog search engines. 2) Write something interesting topic in blog and submit it in social bookmarking sites. But in relevant category else they might reject it. 3) Chat with other bloggers preferably those which has similar theme in community sites like orkut.com. Visit their blog and post comment. Also ask them to visit yours and comment. 4) Yeah, forum posting also helps to promote. You just use your blog link in signature link. 5) If you would like to spend some bucks for promotion then Advertise your blog on Google Ad Words. Get a stumbleupon account and be an active user. It works. Set up squidoo lenses that are relevant to your blog and link back to your blog from the lens. Ask other bloggers in your genre to be a guest writer for you and you for them. It is a great way to get new subscribers from someone else's market. Look for "in person" blogger meetups and social events in your area. People will be much more likely to give you good, meaningful links if they know you.
Make sure your blog has good content and then start submitting it to directories. Also it will help if you do social bookmarking. Ivan
Make catchy signature and post on these forums you are interested in. (subjects you mention sometimes in your blog) That will be quite targeted traffic.
