How to promote a marketplace forum? - Have decent budget!

    Hello Friends,

    I have recently made my first forum .. its a marketplace forum like http://www.talkfreelance.com/ ... but targets a specific type of webmasters. All design/development is already done and its not ready-to-promote.

    Budget is quite flexible, I initially set it to $2000 but can raise to $5000 if required, or even more.

    Since its my first forum, I do not have much idea about how I should promote it. What I already have in my mind is, hiring people to post as kick-start .. and paying fellow webmasters to post their Want-to-Buy and Want-to-Sell threads there.

    I have a specific question about paying others to list their stuff .. question is, at what level I can consider stop paying? How many threads/posts/members/pageviews should be considered enough?
    (I understand this question might seems dumb at some level)

    Should I consider paying webmaster forum owners to send promotional PM to its members? If yes, what rate I should pay max?

    Moreover, what else I can do to market it other than hiring people?

    You can start focusing on one traffic pulling method rather than many.
    Try social networking.
    You can set up a group of freelancer and become the authority of the group.
    Then pull in members and start doing viral marketing.
    You can try this too : superexpansion (dot) com

    give out free ebooks all over. seriously give out free themes depending on the niche you are in or give out free ebooks with link to your forum for more information. Its all about work bro, you have to get in there and give it some work. Collect themes(wordpress themes that are in the same niche, and distribute them. Of course you can re edit them :) thanks.

    I have decent experiences with starting forums, and I can tell you that www.adminfusion.com would be a better place to ask all forum-related questions. AdminFusion is after all, a forum dedicated to forums. :)
