How to promote a high competition product like weight loss?

    Hi,
I got some suggestion that muscle building or weight loss is a good niche to go into, but I'm a little bit concerned of how to promote in some high competition niche....because some of the products from Clickbank have gravities over 500+, I know that's a lot of competition, but also a huge market there.

So far, I can think of is as below:

    1. Do a market research + forum research for end user needs
    2. Use keyword tools to get buying keywords or LSI (or longer keywords with less competition)
    3. Build at least 3 mini website to promote affiliate products
    4. Use article marketing, video marketing and forum marketing to generate traffic, and maybe some social networks such as twitter and facebook

I do not want to use PPC at beginning because I know I'm not good at PPC. I'd be happy to hear some suggestion for doing promotion in a highly competitive niche. Or other ways that I can do to help in promoting. Thanks for the help.

This is a good plan but I would give you a short tip what worked very well for me:
Set up a small squeeze page with your success story and let the people opt-in. After they've done it, redirect to the product.
Why should you set up three pages when 1 squeeze page works fine? You have their mail now and feel free to promote products to them (look for example autoresponder messages at the affiliates page of your product).

To get traffic head over to YouTube and check out the videos with many views. Which keywords do they use? Now you should create a video about your niche / success story and put in your link in the description. This will generate traffic to your squeeze page and they will opt-in and maybe buy the product that you promote.

Try it mate...this works fine ;) But don't just use YouTube...Twitter, Facebook and other Web 2.0 networks will also help to get targeted traffic to your squeeze page.

hi iwilberin5, you pretty much have the complete idea :). if after determining that the niche is competitive and you still wanna go ahead with it and promote, then for sure do. get your feet wet slowly and see how it turns out. use long tail keywords in the beginning since the alternative will be very competitive and expensive. one very important determinant will be your landing page/sqeeze page. make sure it's convincing enough and asks the user to take action in not too long of a time. good luck to you. you can make it!

It'll be tough, but at least you're working with a plan. It will take time, but if you systematically build traffic using the methods you described, you should find success.

Be realistic. There is still low hanging fruit in many niches, BUT (for instance) to be ranked in the top 3 for a search query like "lose fat" would take quite a while. Essentially you have to out market people who are using the best software, have experience and cash, and have teams of workers who build links all day. If you can beat that, then to the victor goes the spoils

Promotion can be nicely by the use of keywords that are less competitive. Do not use more of competitive keywords. They are already laden with traffic. Instead try to use less competitive keywords.
