I have a free program that allows people to see TV on their PC. So far, it has been moderately successful, but I would like to know if anyone had any ideas as to how to get a large number (5000+) of people to download it.

I just did a search for "Free TV" on Google and there does seem to be A LOT of competition, so getting people to download it might be difficult. What you need to ask yourself is how much you value each download and the potential profit they might bring you. For example, 1 user downloads the program (I'm assuming you have ads integrated into the program somehow?) and becomes a loyal user. Working with a $5/CPM banner (unrealistic figure I know :p), and assuming that they attract 10 impressions/day and use it for a month, that's $1.50 in revenue from the 1 user for a month. This would then make PPC advertising worthwhile, so long as you're paying a reasonable amount per click and have a killer landing page to get them downloading.

    All the best,
    Liam
