How to Prevent Others from Copying my E-book

I just finished my E-book and have the site launched, However I'm not sure how I can copyright protect per se my E-book.

I would like to keep the Master rewrite copy, and be able to distribute my E-book without having others take credit for my work, And TIPS? Appreciate it, I saved it as a PDF, but I wish to make it viewable rather than having others be able to copy paste etc etc.....

    Do you use Adobe Acrobat?

If yes, you can go to File > Properties > Security

Then choose Password Security in the Security Method list. A new window will popup and under Permission, check the "Restrict editing and printing of the document" checkbox.

I don't think it would be worth the effort. Even if you can figure out the DRM (digital rights management) that you are talking about, it will irritate your honest customers. It limits how it might be used and can't be 100% effective. Someone could retype it if they had to, so even if you can pull it off, it still won't really work.

In the time you spend on this, you would be better off writing another e-book. Just let it go. Keep moving forward.

    Good luck.

To tell you the truth, I do not really think that you can prevent it. I work a lot as a content writer and copywriter. I can tell you that adding security to any PDF document or e-book in general can not really stop me from borrowing information from that e-book. We are no longer talking about stealing information by stealing the whole book, this would go against copyright. On the other hand, if I buy your book and 2 more similar books, then use these 3 books to write something new and I am better at promoting the new e-book that I create I will sell better. On the other hand, if you did write your e-book and you are 100% the author then you should not care about this. Buyers love to see honesty and if you are honest with them and the info is good they will come back to you when you write a second e-book. Your focus should not be on protecting your product. Think about the fact that the iPhone came out and in one month 2 mobile phone models that were really similar to the iPhone appeared in Japan. We live in a world that does copy, steal and so on. Focus on promoting your book and your customers will realize that you are the one that wrote it. Add a newsletter and create a blog and get in touch with your buyers. This is way better then thinking about adding security.

If you still want security, in Adobe you can add security so that you can not modify the documents. On the other hand, this will not stop anyone in doing a screenshot, using OCR software and in one hour getting the content out of the book. You can not really protect it from copying.

The easy way to prevent people from copying the content of ebooks without retyping it all is to use software like 'ebook pro 6.0' rather than a PDF. Whether or not it's worth doing, overall, is a different question.

Theres absolutely no way to prevent your ebook from being copied. You just gotta deal with it, and if you decide you want to take action against those who copy it, then good luck!

There is only so much you can do to try to slow someone down from copying it, but if they want to, then its gona happen.

I hope you're just being hypothetical and not actually doing this. While pulling quotes from various sources and such constitutes research, if you took three and simply copied or rewrote large sections of each, that would still likely be copyright infringement (3 cases of it, rather than 1). You don't have to copy an entire work to be violating copyright laws.

Do not allow the copy text in the PDF when creating it and that can prevent it to a large extent but then its not full proof.
