hi all, on my website - http://whymylifesucks.us (a site where you post everyday fmls), each story has a "read more" link. This read more link appears each time there is a story(each page has around 20 stories). So in my webmaster tools, when i check the keywords for my site, i find "read" as the most significant keyword. I would like to have more significance for "life" and "sucks" keywords.

So, should i use images instead of these "read more" links? how helpful will using images be? will it be a better SEO technique?

Will the alt of these images be counted in my keywords significance?

First and foremost, are you the one putting the "read more" link on every post of yours? Because if yes, then it might be your problem. Instead of linking "read more" to the whole posts on your own, just make use of line break or paragraph break on every of your post so that it will automatically put a read more link on your every of your post snippets.

i am not using any CMS system, i have coded this site using HTML and PHP. Users posts a and that story is added to the database. the database is displayed on the home page, and whenever a visitor clicks the read more link below a story(there are around 20 stories on the home page and i have currently 70 stories in database), they are redirected to the page containing the whole story.
Anyways, i have used images instead of the read more link will see for myself how google will intepret it now.

Yes, you can use images instead of read more links because your website will look better with images and you can also place your relevant keywords in "alt" tag.

In my opinion a text link is better than an image link. You should have used the phrase, read more why my life sucks or continue reading about why my life sucks.
