I am building a new site www.energy-sense.eu and have a problem where there are effectively 2 pages for the home page, e.g.

    energy-sense.eu
    and
    energy-sense.eu/index.html

I have heard that this does not help with SERPS as there is effectively duplicate content. can anyone help by explaining how I resolve this?

    Thanks

    I never heard it's a problem with a homepage.

You can access this very forum and many others both ways:
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/index.php

Anyway, if you're that concerned, you can use .htaccess to redirect traffic to the one url using this code:

    RewriteRule http://www.energy-sense.eu/index.htm http://www.energy-sense.eu [L,R=301]

This will redirect energy-sense.eu/index.html to energy-sense.eu

If you have cpanel, you can set it in there, under "redirects".
