How to Preserve Page Rank (PR6)

    Hi all,

We've just bought an expired PR6 domain. What can we do to ensure that it stays PR6.

Even if it's not going to stay PR6, at least to prevent it from dropping down to 0.

Are there any resonable/reliable 'emergency' procedures we can do?

    Thanks

    Build up the content quickly

Ensure the backlinks stay. Are they from DMOZ - you don't want to lose that so try to make sure the site stays accurate for the listing. Are they from link vault or coop - then you may be doomed if the seller pulls the links. Are they from natural linking - then it's all good ;)

Also try some linkbuilding of your own.

thats one point we've been considering aswell when considering purchasing new sites. whats the best way to ensure that the linking is natural? do we just do a link:www.sitename for different search engines or is there a different/ better way?

    ok, bit more clarification.

The domain is from tdnam. We bought the domain for a new site which is up and running for about 2 months.

Now what we want to do is move the site onto the new domain.

This move is due to the fact that the domain name is MUCH more relevant and there is a PR diffrence.

Look at the links to see if they are still there. Coop links will have disappeared and sitewide links are likely to be paid and will also disappear.

To be honest you may retain the PR, but its fairly likely you will drop the "value" of that PR and your "clock" will get reset by google - i.e it will be as if you bought a new domian but you will retain the toolbar PR. - This is exactly what happened to us so I am now going for websites, and changing them as little as possible for the first few months.

    Doesn't sound too good...

Google's link measuring is utterly useless, MSN's is ok and Yahoo 's is most accurate mostly. The only way you have a small change to retain your PR is when the websites that according to MSN still link to yours are PR8/7/6. Just check the source of those pages and search for your URL.
