I'm interested in getting this domain name that is expiring today. According to the WHOIS, the person hasn't renewed it. However, I'm fully aware that they can renew it up to 2-4 weeks even after it has expired. And I also understand that the best time to pick up an expiring domain is during the so called "drop off" period which can happen anytime between 30-70 days after the initial expiration of the domain. How do I go about getting this domain? 1) I've heard that using both snapnames.com and pool.com will optimize my chances. My question is WHEN is the best time to place these backorders so I don't miss out on this opportunity? 2) Will the current owner of the website be notified of my backordering of his domain? If you guys can pitch or chyme in on your experiences and what has worked best for you, I'd truly appreciate any insight you can share with me and others on this board!
1) Backorder them any time before they drop. If other people also backorder them from the same place that catches them, you'll go into an auction. 2) No.
Thanks for answering the questions. So seeing how when they actually do "drop" is so variable and unpredicatable as it can be anytime between 30-70 days, when's best time you would say for good measures? Would you think 20 days, as this will provide me with a little leeway to see what the current owner does and if he will renew it or not. Otherwise, if I backorder it today and he renews it tomorrow, then i'm losing money for no reason by backordering. So if the domain expires today, August 14, when would you think would be most ideal to put in the backorders... August 31? The reason being is that I can't sit next to the computer between 30-70 days from its expiration date trying to determine and pinpoint exactly when the "drop" will occur due to my job. And if I backorder through both snapnames and pool.com, would that force an automatic auction since I'm use two companies? Sorry I'm really Please outline exactly what I should do. At any rate, I'm willing to pay up to $250 for the domain so please instruct.
That is a very good article Ajsa52. Def need to read that one from start to finish. One quick question for you igor999, where is the domain name currently registered at? Just curious because some domain name registrars have expired auctions. Godaddy owns TDNAM.com where they sell all expired domain names. If this is the case you can possibly get the name before it goes into registry redemption. Which could save you alot of time.
