I built this site using FrontPage: http://www.danscartoons.com . I plan to rebuild-replace the site using a wp theme ( for best SEO, CSS etc. obviously). Questions: #1. Once I am ready to overwrite the old site, should I first delete the old one? #2. When I publish the new wp built site, will I lose any current SEO I've done, or any page rank? #3. I also have a links page in my current site....I assume I can forego a links page with the new wp theme? #4. Seeing I would be using a wp theme/template, do I first choose one, and publish to my current webhost and work out of it like that? Or do I put it on my hard drive and work in it from my own system? Your feedback, comments, feedback and constructive criticism is appreciated, along with any caveats I ought to be aware of....
1. Yes 2. Yes 3. Dont understand your question. 4. You choose one, publish to your webhost and build your website directly on your webhost.
I thank you samirj09. My third question revolved around making a links page. Is it necessary, like the one I have within my current site: http://www.danscartoons.com/links.htm and as for my fourth question, can I work on my site without it actually being activated or going "live". I mean, it will be a work-in-progress, and will encounter stumbling blocks along the way I am sure.....it would be good to have it all laid out properly before having it go live, but in the meantime, I want my current site to be visible and accessible while working on the new WP site. I hope this makes sense.
You can create a links page but it is not necessary. To have both sites online while you work on one, you would need to install wordpress in a directory such as test. In that case your website http://www.danscartoons.com would still be online and your new website you would work on at http://www.danscartoons.com/test . When you are ready to replace your main website with your test website you would simply move the files to the new location and update the site URL in the wordpress database.
